Blackfoot School District admits payment cover-up

Rep. Neil Anderson, R-Blackfoot, says it would be useful to have a full accounting of all federal funds going to local school districts, not just the federal funds that are appropriated through the Legislature annually.

The Blackfoot School District reached a settlement with its former superintendent in the amount of nearly $211,000, according to an Associated Press story in the Idaho Statesman, but tried to hide it by filing the agreement in his personnel file, which is private under state law.

However, a Blackfoot teacher, the Idaho Falls Post-Register and the Idaho Freedom Foundation filed requests to gain access to any settlement and that request was approved by a district judge,  forcing the school district to release its settlement.

The district has made one payment to the former superintendent with another scheduled for July 2013.
